[M]oving, and a galvanizing call for change

[p]owerful and moving

THE I'M A LIFE CROWDFUNDER HAS ENDED BUT WE RAISED OVER £6K FOR ALLIANCE FOR CHOICE!

I cried. The opening line had me catch my breath, and the next thing I knew I was crying. They were complex tears, of surprise, tinged with sadness & then of joy.

[...] more and more people started sharing their stories online, and when I read Janet’s incredibly moving account, the song came together.

LYRICS

_4284_ (I'M A LIFE) BY ISOBEL ANDERSON

I have only one regret,

And that’s that I had to travel far away,

And go through it all alone,

The hardest way.

But I am not alone in my choice,

And it’s a choice I don’t take lightly,

There are many others who have taken,

This journey like me.

This is my body,

You don’t decide what’s inside,

You can try, you can try and shame me,

But you forgot I’m a life.

I remember everything about it,

The floors of the waiting room,

And I remember everything they shouted,

Because I choose.

But when I see my children,

I know this journey saved my life,

And I respect that others would have,

A different path to take.

This is my body,

You don’t decide what’s inside,

You can try, you can try and shame me,

But you forgot I’m a life.

I’m a life,

I’m a life

(Repeats)

Oh well this is by no means a commandment,

But an end to silence and shame.
